Question about TCAS behavior in TDS GTNXi
#1
Hi,

I’ve been using the TDS GTNXi 750 in MSFS 2020 and noticed something unusual with the TCAS system. During takeoff, I often get a yellow traffic advisory (TA) alert when passing near parked aircraft at the gates, even though they are stationary.

I was wondering if this is expected behavior? I tried disabling AI/live traffic, and the issue seemed to disappear, so I’m curious if TCAS might be detecting ground traffic in a way that isn’t typical. As far as I know, TCAS usually filters out stationary aircraft on the ground, but I’m not sure if that applies in this case.

Is there any setting I might adjust to change this behavior, or is it something that has been noted before?

Thanks for your time, I appreciate any insights you can provide!

Hello,

Thank you for your input and bug report, we have filed it internally for analysis and if we deem that this is a bug on our end, it will get fixed as part of a future TDS GTNXi update.

Best regards.

Thank you.
p.s.
To help clarify the issue, I’m sharing a screenshot of a similar situation, this time during taxiing rather than takeoff. The TCAS still appears to detect stationary aircraft at the gates. You can view the screenshot here:

Hello,

Is this using online traffic or any other traffic program?

The TDS GTNXi is coded not to draw targets if they have the "SIM ON GROUND" variable, which would lead us to think that the variable is not being set correctly by the application generating traffic. We are investigating this on our end as well for a display solution.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response and for looking into this!

To answer your question, I am using BATC for traffic injection, specifically configured to use FSLTL for injecting AI traffic. Given your explanation, it makes sense that this issue might be related to how the traffic application sets the "SIM ON GROUND" variable.

Let me know if you need any additional details from my side, and I appreciate your support in investigating this!

Thank you, in this case we do not need anything special from you at this stage, we will test an internal algorithm and if all is well, please let us know the next time that we update the TDS GTNXi and you see this bug fix in the release notes.
