GTN750XI - Black Screen In MSFS 2020
#1
Hi,

I've been using the TDS GTN750XI for nearly 2 years in MSFS 2020 without issue. However, in the last week whenever I load into a TDS GTN750XI compatible plane I just have a black screen. With MSFS 2020 closed I can open the TDS GTNXI Flight Sim app and open the 750 and everything displays as expected.

I have gone through the usual routine of removing/reinstalling/rebooting etc but all to no avail.

The versions I have installed are:-

TDS GPS Manager:- 1.0.1.3
Aviation Trainer:- 3.8.4.0
GTNXI PC Trainer:- 20.42.2.0
TDS GTNXI:- 1.2.0.0
Gauge:- 1.0.18

It's incredibly frustrating as I'm wanting to upgrade to the Pro version so that I can take advantage of the Navigraph integration but am loathed top do so until I can get it working again with the base version.

Any help gratefully appreciated.

Mark

Scratch that, I’ve fixed it. At some point I made a copy of the tdm gauges folder in the community folder. I deleted that copy and it started working.

Mark,

I presently have the exact same issue as you describe other than mine is the GTNxi Pro. Same version numbers as well except for the version of the GTNxi Pro is 1.2.0.2. Happens across all aircraft. The GTN loads but with just with the black screen (the Direct and Home lights do light up at night). I've tried numerous removals and installs just like you did via TDS Manager. In my scenario it began when MSFS 2020 just stopped loading about halfway through the start-up screens shortly after the recent FS update 1.38.2.0 (might have possibly been 1.38.1.0 initially, last night MS had an update that took a nanosecond to install, actually thought it was a program glitch...nothing works fast in MSFS). The start-up screen would just go poof and be gone. Fixed that. It was an Nvidia driver (currently using Nvidia driver is 572.24, latest hotfix). At first I had the Nvidia App with the overlay and 572.16 which fixed the MSFS start-up problem. After speaking with Nvidia Tech Support about the FRAPS black screen issue I did a Clean removal of the App (their tool) and installed the driver alone. I even tried loading the six previous drivers one at a time after a clean removal each time when .16 and .24 didn't fix the TDS issue. Bottom line, I surmise there is no overlay or a newer FRAPS program (Nvidia Shadowplay?) on my system but I am no expert. I have selected various non-Nvidia options in the General Options/Graphics as well within the sim. I absolutely love the TDS and don't want to lose it. In the meantime I have had to use the PMS which pales by comparison. To me this is looking like a TDS thing over and above the known FRAPS issue. Perhaps because of the last one or two MSFS 2020 updates? As an aside I also use Norton Utilities. Well, that's actually a stretch as I don't use it because it's buggy but it did show some broken registries(?) or other type paths (I can't find it now) that mentioned an HKU game overlay in Windows multiple times. Maybe a clue??

adminOwner2,

Just replying to you as well in case you miss my response to Mark about the same issue. Love the TDS! This one has me stumped however.

Hello Stacy,

Not to worry, we will help you. With MSFS closed, please start the TDS GTNXi from the desktop shortcut and click on the GTN750Xi button, does the screen light up?
If it does not, then please send us the log file from My Documents\TDSGTNXiExeLog.txt

Preferably via Discord, with a private message (DM) @TDSSim:

Or via email: support@tdssim.com
